Underwriter - Commercial Lines
The Commercial Lines Underwriter is involved in the review and evaluation of commercial applications for insurance. This individual is responsible for applying the commercial underwriting philosophy, strategy and guidelines for commercial lines of business for all states. Responsible for handling underwriting edit referrals or other assigned risk reviews, including making and implementing underwriting decisions on new business, renewals and endorsement requests. An Underwriting team member will participate and collaborate in the management of territorial underwriting profitability as well as work with Sales & Marketing on agency management and profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Makes informed and appropriate underwriting decisions based on information provided by agent and other research sources.
Reviews and process New Business submissions and Renewals.
Effectively researches and evaluates to reach decline/nonrenewal or quoting status.
Verifies eligibility per underwriting program guidelines.
Determines appropriate Pricing.
Reviews, evaluates and processes Policy level Endorsements.
Reviews and evaluates Inspection Reports, determines ongoing eligibility of risk.
Possesses written communication skills and documentation of all underwriting decisions.
Clearly communicates program appetite, declination reasons and coverages provided.
Participates with Agency Relations to build, maintain and manage Agency relationships.
Interacts, collaborates and partners effectively and professionally with all internal and external business partners.
Multi-tasks and handles various processes contiguously.
Requires strong organizational, time management, analytical skills and attention to detail.
Performs other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Insurance designation through AICPCU preferred.
5-7 years of related insurance experience.
Strong underwriting skill and coverage knowledge.
Functional knowledge of BOP & CRP insurance product offerings.
Licenses and / or Certifications:
440 License preferred, but not required.
